about camp namanu

Camp Namanu was established in 1924 and holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of campers from all over the world. The camp expands 552 acres and sits on the banks of the Wild and Scenic Sandy River, just one hour east of Portland beneath Mount Hood.

Camp Namanu (Nuh-MAH-Noo) is a program of Camp Fire Columbia, a youth development organization located in Portland, Oregon with a mission to build caring, confident youth and future leaders.

Camp Fire Columbia directly serves 3,500 kids and helps to serve thousands more children and families broadly each year through partnerships and special projects. Camp Fire provides programming in 4 of Oregon’s largest school districts, including 20 schools across the metropolitan region, as well as multiple summer and day camp programs. Camp Fire is a place where every kid belongs, and where they can be themselves.

Camp Fire Promise

Young people want to shape the world. Camp Fire provides the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. In Camp Fire, it begins now. Light the fire within.

Camp Namanu

Camp Namanu has a rich history of helping campers to explore the outdoors, and in turn learning more about themselves in the process

We welcome over 1,500 campers each summer in our Overnight Camp and Ranch Camp. Camp Namanu’s 552 acres serve as the outdoor classroom and playground for hundreds of Oregon youth each year through weekend rentals and special events. As a host site for the MESD Outdoor School in the spring and fall, Camp Namanu serves an additional 1,600 youth from the Portland area. A night at Camp Namanu could mean sleeping out beneath stars, or in a tree house perched over the Sandy river, or nestled by the fireplace in one of our historic Lodges.

We are proud to work with our donors, alumni, and our community and business partners to encourage youth leaders to learn, grow, and impact our communities to make a difference, together.
