Middle School Program

The Middle School Program is one component of an inter-agency project to lift fledgling graduation rates (54% in Portland Public Schools, where this project is focused) and reduce the achievement gap. The Middle School Program partners with nine Title-1 middle schools in Portland to help prepare Academic Priority youth for success in high school and guide them on the path towards graduation. Using leading research-based curriculum, the program helps hundreds of Academic Priority youth build individual goal plans, increases their connection and engagement with their school and community, provides academic support and character development activities, and strives to involve the whole family in the child’s development.
Camp Fire is partnering with Portland Public Schools, Open Meadow High School, and Mt. Scott Learning Center as part of the collaboration, which is funded through a 5-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Project partners weave together prevention, intervention, and re-entry strategies into a continuum of services that move youth along the path toward graduation.
