The Elementary School Program strengthens families and schools by extending the learning day and keeping over 1,000 kids safe, engaged, and learning during the out-of-school-time hours. The program is built on the research-based strategy of early intervention and supports schools in their effort to boost student achievement. The program is shown to increase academic performance while offering youth enrichment opportunities that schools can no longer provide (such as arts, service learning, and experiential activities).
Camp Fire delivers the programs in Portland Public Schools through a fee-based model that provides Child Care while immersing youth in valuable enrichment activities.
Camp Fire also provides the program at no cost in Title 1 schools through a grant-funded Community School model. Recognizing that children need stable, supportive homes to be successful in school, our Community school model augments afterschool activities with educational, health, and social services for children and their entire families.
“The whole Camp Fire experience has been phenomenal for us. The staff is high class, extremely competent, with a strong vision and great follow through. I’ve been blown away by that. We need these programs in every single school.”
